DRM Content Delivery In Cloud-Based Video Workflows

DRM Content Delivery In Cloud-Based Video Workflows

Video providers need a scalable and cost-effective way to convert and package video content into various formats, and to securely distribute it for viewing on different devices.

Over recent years there has been a proliferation of different devices and video formats. Consumers are becoming accustomed to viewing the content they want anywhere, and on any device. Video is consequently being consumed across a much wider range of platforms than ever before. This causes a challenge for media companies looking to distribute content, as it needs to be converted and packaged in various formats before being distributed for viewing on those different devices.

At the same time, with competition high, content is all the more valuable, meaning content providers are at pains to protect that content while ensuring a seamless viewing experience for consumers. However, implementing a system for secure live delivery from scratch can be costly and complex, often requiring expensive hardware, complicated DRM schemes, and high availability.

Multi DRM Kit is an API-based Digital Rights Management (DRM) solution from NEXTSCAPE which provides multi-DRM licensing and multi-format packaging. It supports a large number of devices and enables customers to add DRM features to their existing ecosystem.

Multi DRM Kit supports the major DRM solutions: Microsoft PlayReady, Google Widevine, and Apple FairPlay Streaming. The licensing server and the key server are geographically redundant for high availability, and automatically scale with high numbers of requests. The licensing server also provides access control and rights management depending on specific needs.

Multi DRM Kit features API integration with AWS Elemental MediaConvert and AWS Elemental MediaPackage to provide customers with secure, scalable, standards-based solutions for protecting live and on-demand video workflows.

AWS Elemental Media Services are managed cloud services that make it fast and easy to prepare, process, and deliver broadcast and multiscreen video. AWS Elemental MediaPackage reliably prepares and protects video for delivery over the Internet. From a single video input, MediaPackage creates video streams formatted to play on connected TVs, mobile phones, computers, tablets, and game consoles. MediaConvert is a file-based video transcoding service with broadcast-grade features. It allows customers to easily create video-on-demand (VOD) content for broadcast and multiscreen delivery at scale.

For live video workflows, API integration combines real-time encoding using AWS Elemental MediaLive and just-in-time packaging, origination, and encryption from AWS Elemental MediaPackage with NEXTSCAPE’s Multi DRM Kit to securely process and deliver linear broadcast and event-based content to consumers. MediaPackage scales automatically in response to load, so viewers will always get a great experience without the need to accurately predict in advance the capacity needed.

NEXTSCAPE Live Workflow

File-based video workflows incorporate transcoding using AWS Elemental MediaConvert. The service combines advanced video and audio capabilities with a simple web services interface and pay-as-you-go pricing. Combined with Multi DRM Kit, MediaConvert supports studio workflows as well as delivery of on-demand video for broadcast and multiscreen delivery.

NEXTSCAPE File Workflow

Multi DRM Kit reduces the complexity of implementing DRM features with presets and code samples which can be easily implemented. Support is available in both English and Japanese. Simple pay-as-you-go pricing also makes it extremely cost-efficient.

Ultimately, Multi DRM Kit with AWS Elemental MediaLive, AWS Elemental MediaPackage, and AWS Elemental MediaConvert, makes it simple for media companies to keep content protected while distributing to playback across multiple devices.
