Sam Blackman Named EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 in the Pacific Northwest

Elemental CEO and co-founder wins in the technology category on the 30th anniversary of the acclaimed award program

Portland, Ore. – June 22, 2016 – Elemental Technologies, the leader in software-defined video solutions, today announced that CEO and co-founder Sam Blackman received the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2016 Award in the technology category for the Pacific Northwest. Marking the 30th anniversary of its award program, Ernst & Young presented the award to Blackman during a special gala event held Friday, June 17, 2016 in Seattle, Washington.

Hosted by Emmy award-winning journalist and Tagboard co-founder Jenni Hogan, the gala was attended by nearly 500 of the Pacific Northwest’s top business leaders and entrepreneurs. The award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

“Receiving the EY is a true honor and an exciting milestone for Elemental. It reflects the efforts of our entire team, from the co-founders whose vision shaped this company, to the dedication and hard work by every one of our employees,” said Blackman. “This recognition also shows how strategically important the video space is becoming. On behalf of everyone at Elemental, thank you!”

Blackman, who co-founded Elemental in 2006, guided the company’s ascension from start-up to media and entertainment technology leader. Elemental software makes it easy for media and entertainment companies to take live and on-demand video destined for traditional networks like cable, satellite or over-the-air broadcast and re-format that content for distribution to PCs, smart phones, tablets and TVs. Today, Elemental powers some of the world’s most popular streaming applications, like the BBC iPlayer, CNNGo, ESPN ScoreCenter, HBO Go, MSNBC Shift, and Sky Go and Sky Now.

In October 2015, Amazon Web Services, an Amazon company, acquired Elemental. Blackman, who was selected by an independent panel of judges on behalf of EY, joins founder Jeff Bezos, who won the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year award in 1997.
