Elemental Scores “Conversion” for Rugby World Cup

Leading European media company deploys Elemental solutions for on-demand multi-screen streaming

Portland, Ore. – August 30, 2011Elemental Technologies, the leading provider of video processing solutions that enable multi-screen content delivery, today announced that deltatre, a leading sports media provider, is utilizing Elemental solutions to deliver expanded coverage of the Rugby World Cup, which begins on September 9. The deployment for Rugby World Cup Ltd., which customizes video for IP-connected devices, builds upon Elemental’s momentum in the European multi-screen video market announced last month.

deltatre is using Elemental Server to provide near real-time turnaround of match highlights for the official event website and mobile applications. In exhaustive analysis, deltatre found Elemental Server to be the best solution to meet its requirements. Adaptive bit rate game clips are delivered via the Akamai HD Network to deltatre’s innovative DIVA video player using Microsoft Smooth Streaming for Silverlight.

“Speed, ease-of-use and high quality support are the distinguishing qualities that motivated us to use Elemental,” said Chris Catling, head of operations at deltatre media. “Due to the complexity of the solution we are delivering at the Rugby World Cup, Elemental have been an excellent choice. They have seamlessly integrated into the workflow between our editing operations and publishing via the deltatre CMS. In total, 22 outputs are delivered to different locations feeding seven different platforms. The pure speed at which we can do the encoding is faster than real-time. This enables us to provide a superior service to our client as well as a top-quality experience for viewers.”

Akamai, deltatre and Elemental are working closely to help customers bring their video content to market faster. In the complex world of online video, customers benefit from ecosystem partners providing a single, end-to-end solution that meets their delivery, security and end-user experience needs. Elemental has integrated with the Akamai HD Network, which has served as the global platform for some of the leading live sporting events to date, providing high-quality viewing experiences across a myriad of connected and mobile devices.

“We are honored to partner with deltatre as it looks to deliver superior quality entertainment to rugby fans globally across PCs, tablets and mobile devices,” said Sam Blackman, CEO and chairman of Elemental Technologies. “Elemental stands ready to support its efforts as they move to additional multi-screen video delivery applications that continue to extend the deltatre brand and reach.”

Elemental will exhibit its video processing solutions, including the tournament application, at IBC, September 9-13 in hall 7, stand 7.H37 at the RAI Conference Center in Amsterdam.
