Elemental Boosts Video Encoding Performance with New NVIDIA GPUs
New Software Releases Run on Latest NVIDIA Graphics Processors, Improving Solutions for Broadcast and Multi-Screen Adaptive Video Delivery
GPU Technology Conference 2010 (GTC), SAN JOSE, Calif. — Sept. 21, 2010 – Elemental Technologies, the leading provider of massively parallel video processing solutions, today announced support for the latest generation of graphics processing units (GPUs) from NVIDIA, based on NVIDIA Fermi architecture. The most recent software releases for Elemental’s video compression systems now enable compatibility across the most extensive range of NVIDIA CUDA™-based platforms and a broader range of video conversion and delivery applications than ever before.
Slated for release in the next 30 days, Elemental Server release 1.4 and Elemental Live release 1.1 both offer support for NVIDIA’s most advanced GPU computing platform. With more than three billion transistors and featuring up to 480 CUDA cores, NVIDIA Fermi-class GPUs deliver supercomputing features and performance at a fraction of the cost of traditional CPU-only servers.
“Elemental is effectively using our NVIDIA CUDA parallel computing architecture to dramatically accelerate compute-intensive video processing tasks,” said Andrew Cresci, general manager, vertical market solutions, NVIDIA. “Support for our new Fermi-class graphics processors, such as the Quadro 6000, Quadro 5000, and Quadro 4000, provides video and broadcast professionals the highest possible performance available for video encoding applications.”
Elemental Live and Elemental Server both harness the power of NVIDIA GPUs to offer greater density and accelerated throughput than other transcoding and encoding solutions. These video processing systems deliver simultaneous conversion of multiple HD, SD and 3D video outputs suitable for an array of devices including TVs, PCs, tablets, and mobile phones. Ideal for content producers and distributors with large-scale live encoding and video on demand requirements, Elemental’s solutions are easy to install, configure and integrate into new media and broadcast production workflows.
In addition to support for NVIDIA Fermi-class GPUs, Elemental’s latest software releases include the following new features for broadcast and multi-screen adaptive video delivery:
An improved video pipeline to further increase system efficiency, capacity and throughput
Decode support for Apple ProRes 422, allowing for direct input and conversion of this widely-used video format
Expanded video processing functions, including a new scaler and interpolated frame rate converter
Improved support for streaming to Microsoft Silverlight players and to Apple devices including the iPad and iPhone
With Elemental Live, broadened “one-click” CDN integration, including the Akamai HD, Limelight and Level 3 networks
Updates and enhancements to the web-based user interface for improved ease-of-use
“Elemental is committed to delivering the fastest and most efficient compression technologies to video content producers and distributors,” said Sam Blackman, CEO and co-founder of Elemental Technologies. “The increased processing power available with the NVIDIA Fermi architecture, combined with a newly implemented feature set make Elemental’s video processing solutions the most powerful and robust available for multi-screen adaptive video delivery today.”
Join Elemental at the GPU Technology Conference, hosted by NVIDIA, and being held September 21st through the 23rd at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California. Elemental will take part in the Emerging Companies Summit and participate in the CEO on stage panel session along with industry analysts, investors and technology leaders.
