4K 4Charity Portland Registration Opens Today

Sponsorships available to support nonprofits focused on increased equity in Oregon tech

Portland, Ore. – Sept. 11, 2019 – Registration is now open for the 4K 4Charity Fun Run, which takes place Thursday, October 3 at 3:00pm in Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Produced by Elemental Technologies LLC (“AWS Elemental”), an Amazon Web Services (“AWS”) company, this annual event raises funds for local nonprofits that support increased inclusion and diversity in education.

Proceeds from this year’s 4K 4Charity in Portland will benefit Rosemary Anderson High School (RAHS) and KairosPDX, two nonprofit organizations focused on delivering high quality, equitable education to underserved youth in our community by delivering culturally competent education, and closing achievement and opportunity gaps.

Over the past five years, Portland’s tech community has come together through the 4K 4Charity Fun Run, and raised more than $247,000 in overall proceeds in support of those who are underrepresented in the technology industry and the education systems which feed it in Oregon.

“We thank our generous sponsors and the nearly 4,000 individuals who’ve literally taken thousands of steps to support the next generation of our scientific, technology, and community leaders and enrich our community,” said Laura Barber, co-founder of the 4K 4Charity Fun Run Series. “Please join us on Oct. 3 to raise more funds for RAHS and KairosPDX, and to have an even bigger impact.”

“New Relic is proud to support the 4K 4Charity Fun Run as part of our commitment to giving back to the communities in which we operate, making the tech sector more diverse, equitable, and inclusive. We feel it is critical to support organizations working to provide STEAM education to underserved populations, so we’re thrilled KairosPDX and Rosemary Anderson High School continue to be this year’s beneficiaries,” said Erin Dieterich, director of corporate social responsibility program.

4K 4Charity Fun Run events are hosted annually around the world at industry events such as IBC in Amsterdam, NAB in Las Vegas, and SMPTE in Los Angeles and have raised more than $1 million in cumulative proceeds to support nonprofits working towards diversity and inclusion in tech industries.
