Welcome to the Elemental Insights Newsletter, a regular look at news and events from the leader in software-defined video solutions for multiscreen content delivery. In this edition, we hear directly from Ericsson about virtualized encoding, welcome Danish TV operator Stofa as a customer and recap the Vienna State Opera streaming a live performance in 4K UHD. But first, we take a quick peek at the world’s largest 4K UHD display, recently installed at Churchill Downs.
California Chrome wasn’t the only winner at this year’s Kentucky Derby! The addition of an enormous 4K display 80 feet above the venerable Churchill Downs racetrack has transformed the viewing experience for visitors come race time. See how large-scale video technology adds dramatic modernity to a historic venue in this short video.
With more than 15,000 square feet of glass, the “Big Board” provides an exceptionally wide angle, vivid detail and sharp imagery, ensuring that every seat in the house has a picture perfect view of the track and races.
During NAB 2014, Elemental showcased the advantages of software-defined video solutions. In tandem, Ericsson announced that Elemental video processing software is fully integrated into the Ericsson Virtualized Encoding (EVE) solution.
In this video, Dr. Giles Wilson, Head of TV Compression at Ericsson, discusses challenges posed by the network bandwidth required to transmit high-quality video and the complexities of delivering video in a fragmented ecosystem. He also describes Ericsson Virtualized Encoding (EVE) and its integration with solutions from Elemental to remove infrastructure complexity and provide system scalability, flexibility and increased speed of deployment.
