Elemental and co-founding sponsor Ericsson have teamed up to host the first annual 4K 4Charity Fun Run. Taking place on Saturday, September 13, 2014 in Amsterdam, the 4K 4Charity run is open to all IBC attendees. This event celebrates 2014 as a year of major Ultra HD achievements while also raising money for a great cause, Oxfam International. We’re excited for this inaugural event and encourage everyone at the show to participate. Here are four ways you can be a part of 4K 4Charity 2014:
- SPRINT OR SAUNTER – Whether you want to run, jog or walk, 4K 4Charity is meant to be fun for everyone. All levels of runners and walkers can enjoy the beautiful course through Amstel Park and along the Amstel River. The flat 4km (2.49-mile) loop is convenient to the RAI Convention Centre and easily accessible to IBC attendees.
- SUPPORT – 4K 4Charity has partnered with some incredible organizations that we encourage you to support. Proceeds from the run will be given to Oxfam International, which works to change the world by mobilizing the power of people against poverty. If you’re not able to join the race, consider making a donation to Oxfam or to ONE, a campaign and advocacy organization committed to the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease.
- SHARE – If you’re not attending IBC or can’t make it on race day, it doesn’t mean you can’t spread the word and encourage others to participate! Whether it’s a quick email or tweet, you can easily share this event with your contacts. If you’ve already signed up for the race, keep in mind that running or walking with friends is always more fun, so please encourage colleagues and other IBC attendees to sign up or donate.
- SPECTATE – Spectators are invited to come watch and cheer at any point along the course. Join the fun and help congratulate participants at the finish line, which will include a small celebration of light snacks and beverages.

The BBC head of broadcast and connected systems Phil Layton describes in his recent blog post how his R&D team successfully delivered a 4K UHD TV broadcast of the World Cup over an IP network using Elemental Live encoding. Installed at its Centre House facilities in West London and running on a Linux server, Elemental Live software was used to process incoming live 4K video sources from Rio de Janeiro into HEVC for 4kp60 UHD streaming profiles. The encoder’s remaining processing capacity was used for creating representation streams in HD. You can read the entire blog post here.
Five years ago, Elemental hosted the very first Broadercasting event, gathering together professionals who play a role in the Oregon video technology industry. This local event was inspired by the desire to learn from each other and gain a better perspective on the full scope of the video ecosystem in the region. Since that first get-together in 2010, Broadercasting has grown into a “can’t miss” event for video technology professionals in the Pacific Northwest.
Co-hosted by Rentrak, Arris and the Portland Timbers, the evening includes complimentary appetizers and refreshments, a tour of Providence Park, live local music, and an opportunity to meet players from the Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns soccer teams. We hope you’ll join us at the end of the month for an evening of networking, fun and entertainment. Meanwhile, enjoy a peek at last year’s event in this short video.
